We had a great week with the letter Uu and had fun with all our themes each day!
Monday: Underwater Adventures – The day started with practicing our names, phone numbers and addresses. Our centers included using bingo dabbers and creating a whale, practiced writing the letter Uu and u words in our quick kits, completed a number 17 page with different activities on it and lastly had some intricate scissor work cutting waves on the dotted lines. The books we read were Pout Pout Fish and the Big-Big Dark and Clumsy Crab. We also read through our alphatales Uu story about umbrellabird.
Tuesday: U is for Umbrella – We started the day off coloring an umbrella and cutting it out. The curves on the umbrella we practiced yesterday with our wave cutting. That activity yesterday helped our umbrella cutting! The centers we had today were identifying all the Uu’s on the page and counting the number we colored, matching the uppercase letter on the umbrella to the lowercase letter on the raindrop, colored the pictures that started with the letter u, and lastly colored, cut and glued an umbrella with eyes. We had a few students bring books in about rain, rainbows, and what to wear/use when it rains.
Wednesday: Unicorns are Unique – Students started the day off coloring a fun unicorn page that most colored their best I have seen all year, I should have maybe kept these ones! The unicorn centers we had today were U is for unicorn trace/dab/color, count and color the pictures that begin with u, upper/lowercase rainbow unicorn letter match, and unicorn number mats and counting out the number listed by using our jumbo tweezers and pom poms on the ten frame mats. I have lots of unicorn books and a few students also brought some in from home to share. The books I read today were The Silly Unicorn that wanted to Fly, How to Catch a Unicorn, Unicorn Day, Uh Oh It’s the Unicorns, and Never Let A Unicorn Wear a TuTu. Both girls and boys seemed to enjoy all these books!
Thursday: Underpants Wonderpants! – I think they kids had the most fun this day just hearing me say underpants or underwear I got a giggle from them all day long! We started the day by cutting out our zoophonics letter U umbrellabird parts. We glued it together after our big room time. Our centers were coloring all the Uu items on the page, counting the number of underpants listed under each letter A-J and we also created and designed our own underpants! Some were pretty creative! We had a funny underpant book brought in by one student in the morning class, I say Ooh you say Aah, which was a funny good read! The book is interactive with the class and they had to participate while I read which kept them paying attention and listening! The other two books I read were Pirates Love Underpants and Underwear! We also got to have a little extra time in big room. Our pictures were taken for the grandparents present we are getting together. If you didn’t turn in the form that was sent home, you can send it on Monday or just write on a note and send with your child.
Have a great weekend!
