We had a great week discussing the letter Ii for our weekly themes and survived the cold and snow!

Monday- Interesting Insects: Start up included completing a letter Ii page. Our centers included a ladybug or butterfly roll and cover, pom pom transport from one table to another focusing on that three finger grip, finishing insect patterns cut paste and color, and lastly tracing star patterns. Two books I read today were Inch by Inch and Clifford the Big Red Dog-A Very Itchy Day.

Tuesday- Indoor Ice skating: Our theme was perfect for today since we had some snow and the temps dropping, although we were inside! We started the day practicing our names and I emphasized to the students to really focus because one of our centers was name writing. During big room is when the students got to skate around on paper plates on the carpet. Our centers included a page focused with the number 14 and different activities to complete on it, practiced writing our names with focus on a capital letter ONLY at the beginning of their first and last name (some need work more on this at home!), in quick kits there were seven different sheets for the students to cross out the item that doesn’t belong, and lastly they cut out four different size stars. The book I read today was The Very Itchy Bear.

Wednesday- Icy Cold Igloos: This was a perfect theme for the frigid temperatures we had! Start up included an Ii is for Igloo color page. We had a few cutting and pasting crafts we got done today. We created ice cream cones which we displayed in the hallway and also created Inchworms for the letter I for the week. Students also completed a letter Ii coloring page by following directions on which color to color certain items on the page. The book today was Curious George Builds An Igloo.

Thursday- Ice Cream Social: Probably all the students favorite day this week, ICE CREAM DAY! Our start up today was names and numbers. Our centers included creating rectangles with rubber bands on our geo boards (rectangle was a popular miss by students on the evaluation this year), 1-10 domino number/dot matching, roll the dice and give your ice cream cone that many scoops of ice cream (pom poms) with the jumbo tweezers, and lastly was an A-Z a-z ice cream cone letter matching. After we completed all our centers we went down for a little extra big room while our wonderful assistants prepared our ice cream treat! Students enjoyed eating their little sundaes! I also read the books Splat the Cat: I Scream for Ice Cream, Should I Share My Ice Cream (Elephant and Piggie book), and Curious George Visits an Ice Cream Shop.

Next week information will be coming home regarding our Valentine’s party and head counts for each class and some items that would be on our wish list/donate list for the party. February calendars will also be coming home on Monday!
