This week we focused on the letter Uu. We talked about the sound the Uu makes and words that begin with the letter Uu. We came up with underwater, up, umbrella, unicorn and uncle.

On Tuesday, we focused on underwater activities. For start-up, we found the letter Uu on a Find the Letter page. We read the book Pout, Pout Fish and started to read Flat Stanley. For morning centers, we made ocean animals with pattern blocks, did an ocean I-spy game, matched beginning sounds with the letter, and drew an underwater scene on a plastic sleeve. For afternoon centers, we did a coloring graphing fish, traced/wrote the letter Uu, rolled dice and found the number on a fishbowl, and finished our underwater scene drawings. Also in the afternoon, we did an ocean themed count the room.

On Wednesday, we had a “great day for up”!!!! For start-up, we traced our numbers 11-20. We read the book A Great Day for Up. For centers, we counted our teen numbers with bubble themed cards, did our Uu says /u/ cut and paste, matched beginning sounds with the lowercase letters, and wrote our letters on a tablet. We, also, made and practiced tally marks with popsicle sticks. We played color/shape bingo.

On Thursday, we focused on the themes of unicorns and umbrellas. For start-up, we colored an umbrella coloring page. We read the book The Rainbow Fish. For centers, we practiced our unicorn ten frames, colored a color-by-number umbrella page, played a unicorn emotion game and made our ABCs with pop-its. For art, we cut, pasted and made a unicorn out of the letter U. In the afternoon, we played a “Fishy Bubbles” game where we were given the uppercase letter and we had to find and color the lowercase letter.
