HOLY COW it’s March already…only 3 more months and summer will be here! Ahhhhhhhhh!
We started off March with some fun activities with gorillas, gumballs and giraffes for the letter Gg for the week!
Some of the centers we had this week included: matching letters to pictures for letter sounds, March writing sample, Humpty Dumpty dot to dot and number fill in (one of our Nursery Rhymes for the month), retell wheel for a story we read-Good Night Gorilla, Gg trace and color the Ggs, made gumballs in a machine with bingo dabbers, matched upper and lowercase letters in gumball machine with circle stickers (the ones the students didn’t complete were stapled to their work and came home to complete at home!), practiced tracing letters and numbers, completed a writing activity for a story we read-Giraffes Can’t Dance, and we constructed very unique giraffes!
We had some goofy books this week that went along well with our letter Gg. I read: Goodnight Gorilla, Go Go Gorillas, How to get a Gorilla out of your bathtub, Still A Gorilla, Grumpy Pants, There’s a Giraffe in my Soup, Giraffes Can’t Dance, Giraffe Problems, and You Get What You Get.
I have been drilling the students with letter and number flashcards a lot lately and need the extra practice at home so we can move on and have those mastered. I have also been adding in the letter sounds, which need practice as well. Like I have mentioned before, flashcards are great and repetition is KEY to your child mastering these.
Below are the lists of websites I mentioned at parent teacher conferences that are great for you child to play and LEARN at the same time.
- Starfall (reading and literacy)
- FunBrain (math and reading)
- ABCya (letters, numbers, strategy, skill)
- Cool Math
- PBS Kids
- Storyline Online (actors read books to kids)
- Khan Academy (math)
