Mrs. Brenda’s Classroom

We had a great week with letter I! Here is a snap shot of our week:

Tuesday (Igloos and Ice Cubes):

  • We practiced writing letter I.
  • Colored igloos by coloring the lowercase i one color and the uppercase I another color.
  • Counted snow (marshmallows) by rolling dice and picking up the marshmallows with tweezers.
  • Made our own igloos by painting with Duplo Legos.
  • Constructed igloos with marshmallows and toothpicks.
  • Cut out stars (our shapes of the month) for cutting practice.
  • Made letter I out of magnets.
  • Completed a write-the-room with numbers 1-20. Each student found a snow globe, counted the snowballs in it, and wrote that number on their paper. The students have been really enjoying these activities!
  • We also colored our Eskimos for our art project this week.

Wednesday (Indoor Ice Skating):

  • We practiced writing letter I.
  • Decorated and laced up ice skates! Those were sent home to enjoy!
  • Built our last names with beads.
  • Worked on ten frames for teen numbers,
  • We had specials in the afternoon. The students rotate to all of the all-day teachers for phonics, Spanish, math/science, and sign language. It is amazing to see all they have learned during these sessions this year!

Thursday (Ice Cream Day):

  • We practiced writing our letters of the month in sprinkles!
  • Completed an I-Spy ice cream counting activity!
  • Rainbow wrote our last names to practice.
  • Played a sprinkle game to work on number recognition.
  • In art, we made snowflakes! The students enjoyed these and this was a great following directions activity.
  • We are also working on making igloos with Eskimos as an additional art project. We will be finishing those next week.
  • We ate ice cream too! The students got to choose sprinkles and chocolate syrup if they wanted it. Everyone enjoyed their treat!

Reminders:

Please remember to pack water bottles each day.

Please, please make sure your child goes to the bathroom before you leave for school.  We do not have our first bathroom break until 9:30.  We do cover a lot during those 30 minutes and I hate to have them miss that instruction.

Have a great weekend!
