This week we focused on the letter Kk. We talked about the sound the letter Kk makes and words that start with the letter Kk. We came up with kangaroo, kite, karate, key, king, and kick.

On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of kindness and kites. We talked about what it meant to be kind to others. For start-up, we colored a Kk is for Kite coloring page. We read the books Kindness Counts, Finding Kindness and Pussycat Kite. For morning centers, we counted the number of kites on a card and clipped a clothespin on the right number, cut and pasted shapes to make a kite, wrote an “If I were a kite” creative writing, and matched upper- and lower-case ABCs with a kite themed activity. For afternoon centers, we traced/wrote the letter Kk, matched the numbers of clothespins with the number on a kite, made the letter Kk with tanagram blocks and practiced cutting with a kite themed cutting page. Also in the afternoon, we painted our hands for our graduation hats.

On Wednesday, we focused on the theme of knights and kings. For start-up, we practiced writing our names and addresses. We read the books I Knew You Could and K is for Kissing a Cool Kangaroo. For centers, we cut and pasted a knight themed patterning sheet, practiced tracing our ABCs, did our Kk says /k/ cut and paste page and answered questions about our dad. In the afternoon, we had specials with all four all day teachers. For my special, we practiced making tally marks with pretzel sticks. Also in the afternoon, we did our monthly writing/drawing sample.

On Thursday, we focused on the theme of Earth Day and recycling. For start-up, we colored a reduce, reuse and recycle coloring page. We read the books Why Should I Recycle? and Recycle Everyone. For art, we made an “earth” by using shaving cream and paint. For afternoon centers, we colored a recycle color by symbol page, played an I-spy earth day game, cut and pasted a Kk is for Kangaroo phonics page, and sorted pictures that would make the earth happy or sad. Also in the afternoon, we got to have our own recycling fun!!! We all “kicked” garbage to a recycle paper bags and then got to bring some home to put in our own recycle bin. We had a ton of fun!!!!

Until next week,
