Hi Parents,

What a great first week of school! I’m sure your child is exhausted, full days of school are a lot to get used to! Here is a snapshot of our week…

Each day we start with circle time and talk about the calendar, the weather and do attendance. The kids have jobs each week and help with all of these things. We also talk about the months shape, as well as all of the months letters and numbers. We break for the bathroom and then head back to the classroom for centers.

On Tuesday in morning centers the kids made numbers with snap cubes, they drew a picture of themselves and colored, they traced their name, and they built with LEGO’s.

On Wednesday in morning centers the kids sorted colored objects with tweezers, they put beads on a string, they worked on cutting, and they made shapes with popsicle sticks.

On Thursday in morning centers the kids worked on a color by number, they built with magna tiles, they sorted pom poms into cups with scoopers, and they practiced tracing their name.

After morning centers the kids head to lunch and recess. Our afternoons each day look a little different.

On Tuesday we had classroom time and then extra big room time. In the big room we played a game by rolling 2 dice and doing what they said. For example, one die had actions on it, point, lift, twist, etc., and one die had a part of the body on it, head, knee, elbow, etc. Each student had the chance to roll the dice and do what it said, i.e., point to your knee and so on. This is a fun gross motor activity!

On Wednesday afternoon we practiced cutting and coloring in the classroom and then had art. For art they wrote their name on a pencil, colored the pieces of the pencil, and then cut them out and assembled them on a yellow piece of paper. This was a challenge for some and a great way to practice with scissors and get used to writing their names.

On Thursday in afternoon centers the kids finished their color by number from morning centers, they build with Duplo blocks, they put magnets on shapes, and they worked on some cutting sheets.

We usually end most days by reading books or playing with toys depending on how much time we have.

I hope your child had a great first week of school! If you are willing and have time, have them practice writing their names at home and also let them practice cutting scrap paper with scissors. I’ll be sending home pages with their names to practice on some time in the next few weeks.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Take Care,

Missy
