Welcome to our Week 2! This week’s theme was All About Me! The kids loved talking about their likes and dislikes, their families and all the things. During circle time this week we shared more of our All About Me sheets that were sent in. I also shared mine and our aides Mrs. Cassidy and Mrs. Michelle shared theirs too. We enjoyed learning about each other!
You’ll notice our weekly theme is included in our centers for the week too. On our first Monday of the year, the kids drew self portraits using mirrors. It will be fun to see how they change when we do these at the end of the year and compare. We also practiced tracing and writing our names using our dry erase quick kits. Some of our littles can do really well with this. I’m impressed! We are working on pencil grip and strengthening those writing muscles. We practiced cutting with scissors and counted unifix blocks to build towers. The kids also had fun outside on our playground. This is a favorite!
On Tuesday we used our quick kits to practice our names again and finished the Pencil Control book which was sent home. I enjoyed hearing about the littles’ families as they drew and colored a My Family page. And the kids really enjoyed using pinchers with pom poms to sort by color. They also linked and counted plastic chain links according to Uno cards they pulled out of a container. At the end of the day we read another of my favorite books, Our Class is a Family, which is about treating our classmates like family since we spend a lot of time together.
Wednesday is Art day! The kids really enjoy art. Today we made a caterpillar with each letter of our name on a caterpillar segment. These turned out so cute! They are hanging in our hallway outside our classroom. I’ll post a picture in GroupMe. I challenged the kids to work their hand muscles by putting small stickers on their nameplate. I sent these home with some stickers so they could finish.
On Thursday I put out some toys at the start. I’ll usually do this once a week for a fun start to the last day of our week together. We celebrated Oliver’s birthday today too! We continued our theme during centers with our first creative writing prompt, When I Grow Up. The kids told me what they wanted to be when they grow up, and I wrote the word for them to copy on their paper. Then they drew a picture of it. I loved hearing the answers! We have a race car driver, a mover, a baker, a John Deere man, a princess, a ballerina, a shark, a witch, a writer, a cheerleader, a daddy, and a bunch of policemen. Also in centers the kids matched numbers using pretend cookies and counting the pretend chocolate chips. They worked their hand muscles by learning lacing with strings and the all time favorite of PlayDoh. The kids used PlayDoh to make the letters A and M, which are the letters we’ll be introducing next week.
We made it through our first full week of school. Such a fun and long week! The kids were tired but seemed to have fun. Next week is M week. We have bunch of fun things planned, and of course, we have our fieldtrip to County Line Orchard!
See you next week!
