Hi Parents!  This week we started learning our letters.  Each week we will be introducing a new letter, and this week we focused on the letter M.  At circle time we talked about the sound an M makes, how to write an upper and lowercase M, and we listed all the words we could think of that begin with the Mmmmm sound.

On Monday our theme for the day was “M is for Magnet!”.  The kids had a blast!  During centers they used a magnet wand to try to move objects through a magnatile maze.  They had to concentrate on using their fine motor muscles.  This was the favorite center or sure. They also matched magnet uppercase letters on a cookie sheet.  This was a challenge for most but they did really well.  Another center was about playing with all sorts of magnets to make whatever their imagination came up with.  I also introduced them to a worksheet they will see very often throughout the year.  For every letter we have a write, color, cut and paste sheet called “The letter Says…”.  It focuses on correct writing technique, letter sound and scissor skills.  They did great!  We also read a fun book, “How Do Dinosaurs Show Their Manners?”

On Tuesday we started the day practicing writing their names on our dry erase quick kits.  The theme for today was Mustache Mania! It was such a fun day with lots of giggles!  We measured mustaches with unifix cubes and made mustaches on a stick.  We also used our pattern blocks for the first time to make picture tanagrams.  Today we also started our Original Works art project.  This project has several steps but is adorable!  You’ll see it in a couple of weeks and be able to order cute gifts that will have the artwork printed on it.  When my daughter did this project I ordered several things as Christmas presents for my family.  At the end of the day we played a fun game, Pin the Mustache on Mrs. Kim!

On Wednesday our theme was If You Give a Moose a Muffin. Every Wednesday we have art at the beginning of the day.  During art we continued with our Original Works project.  During circle time we reviewed our M sound and talked about more words that start with the letter M.  Instead of centers today the kids all worked on their Monthly Writing/Coloring sheet for September, which will show their progress in writing their name and coloring skills.  Also the favorite of the day was eating muffins!  They all loved those little muffins.  At the end of our day I read the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin.

Thursday was our first fieldtrip! What a great day for picking apples!  I hope everyone had a good time. We missed some of you that couldn’t make it but there is another fieldtrip in October to the pumpkin patch that I sure do hope you can come to. Look for the sign up information in your childs folder in the next couple of weeks.

Next week’s theme is A is for Apple.  We’ll also be tasting apples of different colors.  Have a great weekend!

Kim
