Hi parents! We had fun during our A is for Apple week. And this week was our first time at Chapel where the kids learned about the Golden Rule, treat others the way you want to be treated. We talked about how Jesus wants us to be kind and how it feels inside when someone isn’t nice to us. Since it was apple week we used apples as an example. The first apple we said kind words to and gave compliments. The second apple we said mean and hurtful words. Then we cut the apples open to find out that the first apple was a normal looking apple but the second apple that we were mean to was bruised and rotten. We tried to show the kids that Jesus wants us to lift others up and make them feel good inside. I think the kids enjoyed Chapel and hopefully it was impactful for them. We will have Chapel once a month and will include many important Bible stories with great lessons.
Monday was our Chapel day. We also worked on our Original Works art project which I believe should be coming home soon for you to oogle over and possibly order items. We also worked on identifying upper and lowercase Aa. In addition we learned the sound letter A makes. We are using Zoophonics to help the kids remember letter sounds. Last week was Mm so used Missy Mouse Says Mmmmm. This week we learned Allie Alligator Says Aa Aa. We do motions with each and the kids really like it. We also read the book Say Please Louise.
On Tuesday we practiced writing our name and did our write, cut and paste worksheet The A Says. The kids cutting is already really improving! We also used bingo dotters to make and count apples from 1-10. The kids really liked using our chain links so this time we used them to link together all the uppercase letters of the alphabet in order. This was a challenge but they were building their hand muscles! Also a challenge was one of my favorite activities, picture whole punch using golf tees. Such a great fine motor activity and you get a cute paper to hang on your fridge. Today we read The Biggest Apple Ever.
Wednesday is art day! We had fun making an apple suncatcher with tissue paper. The kids tore the tissue paper using their fine motor skills to make this adorable apple. I have them all hanging in our classroom window. I’ll send a pic in GroupMe. We also finally finished our Original Works art project. So many steps but you are going to love them! In addition we finished up our apple whole punch and read the book My A Book.
Finally apple tasting Thursday! The kids asked all week if it was time for apple tasting and today I could finally say yes! A fun day for sure. The kids got to taste red, green and yellow apples and for the most part all were enjoyed. I will send home the worksheet they filled out on Monday. We also worked our fine motor muscles by using hole punchers to punch holes in apples and by tracing lines from apple to apple. We worked on an apple sequencing worksheet that had 3 pictures, one whole apple, one with a bite out and one with the whole apple eaten. The kids needed to cut and pasted the apples in sequence. Those scissor skills at work again.
Next week we will continue with A with our ABC Astronauts and then move to Oo. Have a great weekend!
