Hi Parents,
We had such a great week! We wrapped up learning about the letter Aa and also learned about the letter Oo. Here is a snapshot…
On Tuesday our theme was ‘Astronauts.’ In morning centers the kids rolled a die and counted ‘moon rocks’ (foil balls) on to 10 frames, they painted the moon with foil, they played in a space themed sensory bin, and they worked on an astronaut color by number. In afternoon centers the kids finished their color by number, made pictures with tangrams, and made shapes with floam. After centers we headed out to the big room for extra play time. We ended the day in the classroom finishing up work from earlier in the day.
On Wednesday the theme was ‘opposites and owls.’ In the morning we started specials. For specials the kids rotate to all of the teachers learning sign language, Spanish, zoo phonics, and science. Mrs. Leslie teaches sign language, I, along with Mrs. Veronica, teach Spanish, Mrs. Brandi and Mrs. Kristina teach science, and Mrs. Brenda teaches zoo phonics. Zoo phonics takes each letter and associates its sound with an animal and motion to help the kids learn the sounds. The kids will sing the song for you at graduation! In afternoon centers the kids placed owl erasers on a picture of an owl, they made a mosaic owl, they spotted the difference between owl pictures and clipped clothes pins, and they did an activity placing pictures 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in a sequence. We ended the day with art. The kids used cotton balls to paint fall leaves on a tree.
On Thursday our theme was ‘observing the outside (fall).’ In morning centers the kids worked on fall themed graphing, they cut leaves and then punched them with a hole puncher, they cut and glued their O page, and they placed round magnets on fall themed mats. In afternoon centers, the kids matched upper and lowercase letters, they put together fall puzzles (1 was the alphabet and 1 was numbers), they played with kinetic sand and construction vehicles, and they worked on a leaf shaped pin poke. We had enough time to head outside for a nature walk. Back behind the school there are a few small trials through the woods that we walked through and we played a few listening games. It was hot but great to have some extra time outside! We ended the day with toys.
Next week we will talk about the letter Ff. Looking forward to it!
