Hi Parents! This week we continued with the letter Aa and introduced the letter Oo. It was definitely a busy week for the kids but I think they enjoyed the activities.
Monday our theme was ABC Astronauts. We started work on our art project today by coloring an astronaut with bright markers. I asked the kids to really try to stay in the lines, and they did a great job concentrating. This project has a few steps so we’ll work on small parts on different days. A couple of weeks ago when we were working on the letter Mm, we ran out of time to do a muffin craft. So we did it today. They counted and glued blueberries on a muffin and wrote the number on the bottom. They used their improving scissor skills to cut out the muffin too. A cute craft to hang on the fridge! In another center the kids got cards which had pictures of cups with specific colors of pompoms in them. They used tweezers to pick up pompoms and put them in cups exactly matching the cards. This was a challenge but they loved doing it. And they did great! We also worked on identifying upper and lower case letters by matching popsicle puzzle pieces. It was a beautiful day and the kids got all their work done. So we went outside to play in the playground!
On Tuesday it was another ABC Astronaut day. We started the day practicing writing our names on our dry erase quick kits. A version of this was sent home this week for the kids to practice at home. We also worked our fine motor muscles by practicing our cutting skills on aliens and writing skills using the letter Aa quick kits. The highlight of the day was the spaceship alphabet puzzle. The kids loved putting this together with our aide Mrs. Cassidy. At the end of the day we read Fall Apple Fun and The Apples on the Tree.
Wednesday is Art day. We also worked on opposites today. The kids put together opposite puzzle pieces, and they did really well. We also worked our fine motor muscles by writing, cutting and pasting our The Oo Says worksheets. For art we painted the moon for our astronaut from Monday. We used tinfoil to paint and texture our moons. The kids love to paint! Today we read Buzzzz Said the Bee.
On Thursday we started the last day of our week playing with magnetiles. Today I decided to change it up a little and do an activity all together as a class. It was a opposites worksheet where they needed to listen carefully to directions to cut and paste the picture of opposites to the correct opposite picture. This definitely tested their listening skills and patience. And it was very challenging for them. I sent home these worksheets in their folders. We then played A-Z bingo. The kids enjoyed this and it helps with letter recognition. These activities took longer then I expected so we didn’t get a chance to go on our nature walk to observe the outdoors. But I’m hoping we have time on Monday for this!
Reminder! Monday is picture day. Have a great weekend!
