Hi Parents! It was a full week of fabulous Ff fun! The kids were really enjoying the ABC Farm theme and the frog day was a hit too. I am starting to see some real fine motor improvements with writing their names and cutting.
Monday was picture day so our schedule was a little different. We started the day with a farm coloring page. We are trying to encourage more deliberate coloring by staying in the lines. No scribbling. While we were waiting our turn for pictures, we spent some time practicing patience in our big room. The kids were able to play with our vast collection of farm and animal toys. This was definitely a favorite. When it was our turn for pictures the kids did so great giving those natural smiles to our photographer! It was such a beautiful day outside we decided to go for our nature walk to the back of the ABC property. The kids practiced using a rope line-up lead to stay together while we walked the distance. We will use this rope in case of emergency and we need to leave the building quickly. Using this was good practice. While on our walk we observed all the wonderful creations God has provided like the trees and birds and even the farm field next to our property. The kids were able to look around and find different color leaves and we even found some feathers. The kids enjoyed this so much they have been asking to do it again. We will try to fit another walk in when weather permits. At the end of the day we read a couple of fun books, Farmer Brown Sheers His Sheep and Fall.
On Tuesday we were back to the ABC Farm. We started the day practicing name writing using the dry erase quick kits. The centers today were a big hit! The kids used Qtips to dot paint a big pig and strung beads onto a sheep with pipe cleans and string attached, which again strengthens those fine motor muscles. They also played a dice farm game where they took turns rolling the dice and put little farm animals on the correct square. They did great taking turns! The favorite center today was playing with small farm animals in kinetic sand. Today we read My “F” Book and Click, Clack, Peep!
Wednesday is art day! We started the day with a worksheet where the kids needed to find and color the Ff’s. During art we painted their hands for our ABC Farm art project. We’ll be turning those hands into ducks. We also worked on some cutting for astronaut art project from last week. An additional theme for today was Following Directions. Back in the classroom we did our Classroom Following Directions activity as a group. We do this at least two times a year, in October and May. This will be included in the portfolio you will get at graduation and will show their progress. As a group we also did our first directed drawing which is a frog. They turned out absolutely adorable and will be hanging in our hallway. At the end of our day we read I Am Cow, Hear Me MOO!
Thursdays theme was F is for Frog. The kids wrote, cut and pasted their F Says worksheet. There is definite improvement! I created name frog puzzles for each child. They had fun trying to spell their names and do the puzzle at the same time. A fun center was our frog game where the kids squeeze rubber frogs to open their mouths to eat flies. The game builds fine motor muscles while providing lots of giggles! Today we introduced patterning. The kids used small farm animals to finish the simple color pattern. And they did awesome. I was impressed. We’ll be adding more patterning going forward. We also read Click Clack Moo Cows That Type.
It was a great week! Next week is Pp week and our pumpkin patch fieldtrip! Hope to see you there!
