Hi Parents,

We had a great first week back and talked about the letter Ww. Here is a snap shot…

On Tuesday our theme was ‘Welcome Back.’ In morning centers, the kids worked on a color by number, they wrote and drew a picture about something they did while they were on break, they put magnets on magnet boards, and they painted with watercolors on the letter Ww. In the afternoon, before our extra big room time, the kids colored, cut, and glued a polar bear. These turned out great and  are hanging in our hallway. We played ‘Kids on stage’ for our extra big room time. The kids each picked a category- action, animal, or object- then picked a card and acted out what was on the card. This game is always a great challenge for all of the kids! We ended the day by finishing the color by number from morning centers.

On Wednesday our theme was ‘Watermelon.’ In the morning, the kids rotated through specials learning Spanish, sign language, zoo phonics, and science. Before lunch the kids cut, glued, and colored their W page. In afternoon centers, the kids drew a number and counted seeds (beads) on to a watermelon, they cut and glued a W on to a watermelon, they outlined watermelon shapes with beads, and they worked on winter themed pom pom mats. We ended the day with art. The kids finger painted snow on to a winter tree and added a snowman under the tree. These are also hanging in our hallway!

On Thursday our theme was ‘Winter Wonderland.’ In morning centers, the kids rolled a die and covered the number in a snow globe with a snowflake eraser, they made snowflakes with plastic jewels, they painted a snowflake with dot markers, and they found arctic animals in rice bins and clipped them on small clips. In the afternoon the kids worked on cutting, gluing, and coloring a winter themed beginning sound sheet. We ended the day with an arctic animal find. The kids had to find 12 arctic animal pictures around the room and color them on their paper.

Next week we will talk about the letter Ii. Don’t forget that Thursday we will be eating ice cream!

Take Care,

Missy
