Hi Parents!
This weeks letter was Ii. This kids were excited for the week of Ice Skating and Ice Cream.
On Monday our theme was Igloos and Ice Cream and we started the day with an Ii coloring page with all things that begin with Ii. After circle time the kids worked on their centers. They worked on a rhyming cut and paste worksheet which was definitely a challenge for them. I expect this since we mostly work on the beginning sounds, not the end of the word. Another center was ice cream cone themed cards with numbers. The kids had to build a cube tower corresponding to the number on the card. Additionally, the kids worked on upper and lowercase letter matching using an ice cream themed dry erased page.
Tuesday the kids worked on their write, cut and paste The Ii Says worksheet. Another center was about fine motor work. The played with kinetic sand making ice cream cones and sundaes. Of course this was the favorite of the day! I tried something new with the kids this day. I gave them cards with pictures they needed to match with the beginning sounds letters. This was a challenge as expected but we worked with them on the sounds and was so excited when they got some right away!
On Wednesday we do Art and today we ice skate! This was so fun! During our Big Room time with kids used paper plates to “skate” on the carpet. I think we will do this again because the kids loved it. During art, the kids painted with ice cubes! Using an ice cube tray I put a drop of paint in each section and mixed with water, Then placed a popsicle stick in each and placed in the freezer. The kids used the sticks to hold and then they painted a winter hat. They are so adorable I am going to hang them in the hallway. Back in the classroom we used Legos to paint our Igloos and used markers to color Eskimos. We’ll do some finishing touches and put them together for a cute art project.
Thursday was the kids favorite day of this week. During centers the kids worked on a name ice cream cone craft which they cut and pasted ice cream scoops and put one letter of their name on each to build a super cool cone. At another center the kids worked on patterning. The cut our pictures and pasted them to complete the patterns. The kids did great with simple and complex patters! I also brough out my ice cream shop toys that the kids adore!
Such a fun week of mostly ice cream! Next week is Ss week with Snowmen, Sports and Superheroes.
