Hi Parents!
It was a full week of the letter Dd!
Monday was a favorite. It was Donut Day! We started the day with a donut coloring page. Today we were able t0 spend some extra time out of our classroom in the foyer. I planned some fun listening and find motor games. First we played Boom Clap Grab. This is a listening game where the kids are paired together. I pat my legs (Boom), clap my hands (Clap) or grab a toy in the middle. The first to get the toy wins. I varied the timing and then added body parts to change it up a bit. We all ended up giggling! Then we played Pass the Heart. Each child is given a clothes pin and we pass a cardboard heart between us in a circle. The object is to not drop the heart or touch it with our hands. Another fun time! We went back to our classroom for donuts. The kids loved eating donuts at school! We ended our day with watching Captain Seasalt Letter D.
On Tuesday, it was Dazzling Dentists day. During circle time we talked about dental health and how to keep our teeth healthy. I demonstrated brushing in circles on our giant set of teeth. Each child got to try it themselves which they enjoyed. During centers, the kids worked on The Dd Says write, cut and paste worksheet. They also did a coloring sheet where they colored the healthy things green and the not-so-healthy things red. In another center they sorted items that were good or bad for our teeth. At the favorite center the kids played Crocodile Dentist. They took turns rolling a dice to determine how many crocodile teeth they got to push down and the crocodile randomly chomped down on one of them. Another day of giggles!
Wednesday was Art day! During art the kids painted with puffy paint made of shaving cream, glue and a little paint. They created donuts with sprinkles and glitter. Adorable! Back in the classroom the kids worked on our monthly writing and coloring sample and drew something that they loved. As a group we watched Zoo-Phonics. The kids are really starting to get all the letter sounds. We ended our day with putting dino eggs into cups of water. We’ll see what happens with them tomorrow.
On Thursday we talked about D is for Dinosaur. We started the day with a Dd coloring page. In centers the kids did a dinosaur creative writing and matched upper and lowercase dinosaur cards. They also worked on a cut and paste letter match worksheet which was a breeze for most! In the favorite center the kids got to play with kinetic sand and a bunch of dinos and fossils. Kinetic sand is always a favorite! We ended our day with checking on our dino eggs. They hatched! Every child brought home a tiny dinosaur.
It was a great week for sure! Next week is a new month and we start with Dr. Seuss and the letter Ee.
