Hi Parents,

We had a great week learning about the letter Ee. Here is a snap shot…

On Tuesday we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by reading lots of his books and doing activities with that theme. In morning centers, the kids counted characters and objects from Dr. Seuss books and clipped the number with clothes pins, they wrote about objects that the first letter of their name starts with, they matched upper and lower case letters with a cat in the hat theme, and they stacked cups like the cat in the hat’s hat. In the afternoon, they cut and glued the red and white stripes for the cat in the hat and made a pattern with them. For our extra big room time we did a ‘Hey Riddle Riddle’ with the letters Hh and Ee. We ended the day with an activity from the book ‘There’s a Wocket in my Pocket.’ The kids had to pick a card with a picture from the book and decide if it was ‘real’ or ‘silly.’

On Wednesday our theme was ‘Elephant.’ In the morning the kids rotated through specials learning Spanish, zoo phonics, science, and sign language. In afternoon centers, the kids practiced writing the letter Ee, they put circle magnets on the letter E, they cut and glued their E page, and they found elephants in eggs after saying the letter or number written on them. We ended the day with art. The kids painted Elmer the Elephant with sponges in rainbow colors.

On Thursday our theme was ‘Eggs’ (Humpty Dumpty). In morning centers, the kids counted and stacked cups and then put humpty dumpty on top, they matched beginning sounds in the shape of eggs, they cut and glued the humpty dumpty story in sequence, and they traced an egg and cut it out. In the afternoon, the kids cut and glued a cracked egg and then cut and glued humpty dumpty’s arms and legs and glued it on as well. We ended the day with Mrs. Leslie’s ‘egg-speriment.’ She took eggs and put them in bags with several different materials and the kids had to predict if the egg would break or not when she dropped it. The kids LOVED this! It’s always so fun to see if any of them will survive. 1 did this time, the rest broke!

Next week we will talk about the letter Uu. Looking forward to it.

Take Care,

Missy
