Hi Parents,
We had a great first week of school! Our theme all week was ‘Welcome Week.’ Here is a snapshot of our days…
On Tuesday, after circle time and bathroom, the kids spent time playing with toys in the big room while I took all of their first day of school pictures. After lunch and recess, we were in the classroom for centers. The kids made numbers with snap cubes and counted, they colored and drew on their ‘first day of school’ page, they worked on writing their names, and they built with LEGO’s. After a bathroom break, we read ‘The Pigeon has to go to school’ and ‘The Pigeon finds a hot dog,’ and we played some songs before dismissal.
On Wednesday after circle time and bathroom, we played a gross motor game in our classroom. The kids rolled 2 dice, 1 with a body part and one with a movement. Whatever they landed on, we all did together, i.e., one die landed on ‘shake’ and the other landed on ‘knee’ so we all ‘shook our knees’ together. We also read a Pete the Cat book and washed hands for lunch. After lunch and recess, we were in the classroom for centers. The kids sorted colorful objects with tweezers, they put wooden beads on string, they practiced cutting, and they made shapes with popsicle sticks. After a movement break, we ended our day finishing centers and looking at books.
On Thursday after circle time and bathroom, we came back to our classroom and wrote our names on a pencil, which is a project we finished at the end of the day. After lunch and recess, we had centers. The kids worked on a back-to-school themed color by number, they built with magna tiles, they sorted pom poms with scoopers into cups, and they cut out circles and ovals and sorted them into separate bins. After a bathroom break, the kids colored, cut and glued their pencil on to a yellow piece of paper. I’ll send a picture of them hanging in our hallway next week!
Next week our theme is ‘All about me.’ See you on MONDAY!
Take Care,
Missy
