This week we focused on “Welcome Back to School”, learning the routine of a full day and making new friends.
On Tuesday, we started out the day by waiting for all of our new friends to arrive. We were able to play in “play centers” while we made new friends. For circle time, we went over how a full day goes and went over the themes of the month of September. Then we went into center time. Here we made numbers out of snap cubes, made ABCs with Play-Doh, worked on a “This is me on the first day….” writing/drawing page and laced letters. After centers, we got our wiggles out by dancing to “Danny Go” before we had to wash our hands for lunch. After lunch, we did our afternoon centers. Here we colored a “First Day of School” coloring page, worked together to finish tanagram puzzles and worked on word puzzles. At the end of the day, we got to know each other by playing in play centers. We had a great first day!!!!!
On Wednesday, we started out by waiting for all of our new friends to arrive. We then went through a full circle time. Here we had calendar time and went over the monthly themes. We also read books about going to school. We then went into our morning centers. Here we rolled a die and built the number on the die by making a tower with unifix cubes, practiced cutting out circles and ovals, made our ABCs with pop-its and used snap cubes to make “Back to School” items. We then painted our handprint for a “First Day of School” craft. After lunch, we went into our afternoon centers. Here we traced our numbers 0-20, made things with Brain flakes, played with kinetic sand and farm animals and laced with lacing beads. At the end of the day, we had a little time before we went home so we listened to more books about going to school.
On Thursday, we, again, started out by waiting for our friends to arrive. We then went through our circle time. After circle time, we got to go into art time. Here we practiced coloring, cutting, gluing and writing our names by making a pencil art. After we worked really hard on our art project, we got our wiggles out by dancing and moving. After lunch, we got to work in groups in centers. Here we made patterns by matching the pattern shown with unifix cubes, made our number 1-10 with Play-Doh, used snap cubes to make our letters and linked together linking chain with patterning cards. At the end of the day, we got to go into the big room and dance and have fun with our friends.
We had a great first week of school!!!!
