Hi Parents,

We had a great week learning about the letter M! Here is a snapshot…

On Monday our theme was ‘Monsters.’ We read some really fun monster books, ‘Go Away Big Green Monster’ and ‘There’s A Monster at the End of This Book.’ The kids loved them both. For centers, the kids cut a monster’s hair, they counted beads on to a monster’s ‘hair’ (pipe cleaners), they colored and cut out monsters, and they worked on a monster dot page. For art, the kids cut out all of the pieces to make their own monster. These are hanging in our hallway, and I sent a picture through GroupMe!

On Tuesday our theme was ‘Magnets.’ In the morning the kids had a chance to play with toys during our extra big room time. After lunch and recess, the kids rotated through centers. They counted paper clips on to popsicle sticks with magnets and numbers on them, they played with magnet wands and magnets, they played with magnet people, and they practiced writing A and M on our giant dry erase board. The kids ended the day by cutting and gluing a monster and following directions on how to glue it together. These came home in folders.

On Wednesday our theme was ‘If you give a moose a muffin.’ For centers, the kids counted beads into muffin tins with numbers on them, they made a moose out of the letter M and glued a mustache and eyes on it, they used dot markers on the letter M and a muffin, and they played/built with fidgets. Before the day ended, we had time to play instruments. The kids loved this! We ended the day by reading ‘If you give a moose a muffin’ and eating muffins. They loved having muffins at school.

On Thursday our theme was ‘Mustache.’ For centers the kids counted beads on to a mustache with numbers, they practiced writing upper and lowercase Mm, they colored and cut out their own mustache, and they practiced cutting. We ended the day by playing ‘put the mustache on Mrs. Missy.’ The kids had to close their eyes and try to tape a mustache on my picture. It was pretty funny.

Next week is October already! We are talking about the letter F. Looking forward to it.
