Hi Parents,
We had a great week learning about the letter Ff. Here a snapshot…
On Monday our theme was ‘Frog.’ In the morning we read the book ‘This is Frog,’ which is an interactive book about a tree frog. We also read ‘The Wide-mouthed frog.’ After lunch and recess, the kids cut and glued lily pads on to a piece of blue paper and then used stamps to stamp their name. For art, the kids used watercolors to paint an entire half sheet of paper. (we needed these for flowers on our lily pads) After art, the kids worked on a directed drawing of a frog. I told and showed them each step, and they each drew their own. These were then cut out and glued on our lily pads. We also had time to take a walk outside, which the kids loved!
On Tuesday our theme was ‘Frog’ again. In the morning the kids played with toys for their extra big room time. After lunch and recess, for centers, the kids rolled a die, counted pom poms, and used tweezers to ‘feed a frog,’ they cut and glued their F page, they tried to flick and land jumpy frogs on to lily pads on the table, and they played with frogs and bugs in kinetic sand. We ended the day with cutting and gluing flowers (from art) on to the lily pads from Monday.
On Wednesday we had our first day of specials. The kids rotated to all of the teachers learning Science with Mrs. Kristina and Mrs. Brandi, zoo phonics with Mrs. Brenda, they learned Spanish with me, and sign language with Mrs. Leslie. We will be doing this every Wednesday morning from now on and you will see the songs that they learn at graduation! In the afternoon for centers, the kids cut and glued patterns, they worked on a creative writing page where they drew a picture and wrote about the animal that was in their barn, and they sorted zoo and farm animals from rice bins with grabbers. They also played with a farm, animals, fences and trucks from my own kids growing up.
On Thursday our theme was ‘Farm.’ In the morning we were able to see the fireman, fire truck, and ambulance. The kids loved it! After recess, for centers, the kids counted and collected ‘berries’ (pom poms), they picked a letter and wrote it, they played with the farm toys again, and they made fence patterns with popsicle sticks. I also painted their feet to make a bee for our farm project. These will be hanging on the wall in the big room!
Next week we will talk about the letter Rr. Looking forward to it.
Take Care,
Missy
