Hi Parents,
We had a great week learning about the letter Rr. Here is a snapshot…
Our theme on Monday was ‘Rainbows.’ In the morning before lunch, we did a ‘guess who’ activity with farm animals (we did not have time to do this last week!). I read 3 clues and the kids had to figure out which animal the clues were talking about given the pictures on the page. This is always a good activity to practice raising hands and waiting to be called on. The class did great! For centers, the kids built a rainbow with stickers, they sorted rainbow pom poms with tweezers into the correct colored cylinder, they used magnets on magnet boards, and they cut and glued their R page. For art, the kids drew a rainbow with their crayons and then painted the sky with watercolors. They later glued cotton balls at the bottom of the rainbow for the clouds.
On Tuesday our theme was ‘Rainbows’ again. In the morning before lunch, the kids played with toys during their extra big room time. After lunch and recess, for centers, the kids rolled a die and covered the number on a rainbow, they used dot markers on a rainbow and wrote the letter Rr, they made patterns with popsicle sticks, and they cut and glued a rainbow and wrote their name. We ended the day with a ride on the fire truck!
On Wednesday our theme was ‘Rectangles and Robots.’ In the morning the kids rotated through specials learning Spanish, science, zoo phonics, and sign language. After lunch and recess, for centers, the kids counted pony beads and measured robots, they traced lines on a robot and colored pictures of things that start with R, they cut and glued a robot, and they worked on rhyming by matching pictures on robots. We ended the day by cutting and glueing a pig that we had painted at the beginning of the week. These are hanging in the hallway!
On Thursday our theme was ‘Rockets.’ In the morning before lunch, we spent time outside using my stomp rockets. I hope you saw the pictures on GroupMe, the kids loved this! For centers, the kids worked on a rocket themed color by number, they painted the moon and colored a rocket, and they used ‘floam’ with space figures. We ended the day with a listening activity and then played the instruments for a few minutes.
Next week we will be talking about the letter Pp. Looking forward to it!
