Hi Parents,
We had a fun week learning about the letter Ii. Here is a snapshot…
On Tuesday our theme was ‘Igloos and Ice Cubes.’ In morning centers the kids used tweezers to count cotton balls into ice cube trays, they used magnets on an igloo page, and they painted with Duplo blocks to make an igloo and snowflakes. They also colored an eskimo, which will go with the igloo. In afternoon centers, the kids worked on 2 cutting pages, their monthly name writing and coloring page, and a color by letter I page. We ended the day with chapel. The kids learned the story of the Walls of Jericho, ask them about what they learned!
On Wednesday our theme was ‘Indoor Ice Skating.’ The kids loved ‘ice skating’ during their big room time! They simply stood on paper plates and scooted around. 🙂 In morning centers, the kids counted paper clips on to popsicle sticks with numbers on them, they worked on an ‘I’ page, they decorated an ice skate, and they played with snow in trays! In afternoon centers the kids laced the skate they had made that morning, and they cut and glued an upper and lowercase letter match page. For art the kids cut and glued their igloo and eskimo on to the page with snowflakes. They also stamped a snowman on to the winter tree that they had painted last week.
On Thursday our theme was ‘Ice Cream.’ In morning centers the kids counted ice cream scoops on to ice cream cones with numbers on them, they cut out stars (our shape for the month), they played with a kinetic sand ice cream set, and they colored, cut and glued their own ice cream cone. In the afternoon, instead of centers, the kids worked on a cutting and gluing page. They had to cut out animals, snow, and snowflakes and glue them on to a winter tree. There were so many little things for them to cut out, it was a great challenge for them! They are getting so much better at cutting and were all really proud when they finished. We ended our day by eating ice cream with all 3 of the other classes. The kids loved it! We also read the Mo Willems book, ‘Should I Share My Ice Cream?’ That is one of my favorites.
Next week we will talk about the letter Ss. Don’t forget that Friday is conferences! When signing up, please click on my name first so that you are signing up with the correct class/schedule. Have a great weekend!
Take Care,
Missy
