Hi Parents!
Another short but fun week! Our letter for the week was Xx.
No school on Monday due to the crazy cold weather again. I hope the kids enjoyed the activities on my Google Classroom.
On Tuesday our theme was X Marks the Spot. During circle time we talked about how the letter Xx doesn’t have many words that start with X and that the letter sound is usually found at the end of a word. Its a tricky concept but the kids did well coming up with words that end with Xx. In centers the kids worked on their write, cut and paste The Xx Says worksheet. I also gave them a letter maze where they were asked to color only the circles with Xx’s in them and it would guide through the maze. They were able to do this without any guidance which is awesome! At another center we worked on completing the pirate patterns. This worksheet was tricky for them but we worked through all of them together and I think they are starting to get the hang of it.
Wednesday is Art day and our theme was X is for X-ray! We started our day with our writing our names in the dry erase quick kits. I’ve noticed that some kids are in a hurry when writing their names and are getting a little messy. Please continue to work with them at home and remind them to go slow and form each letter completely. During art today we showed the kids what a hand x-ray looked liked and tasked them with making their own. First they traced their hand with white crayon on black paper. And then glued q-tips on the inside to look like the bones. They definitely used their creativity on these! Back in the classroom the kids worked on an x-ray color by letter and finished a few other craft projects.
On Thursday we talked more about the concept of Xx at the End of the word. The kids worked their scissors with a cut and paste X at the End puzzle. They had to cut up the X and puzzle it back together on construction paper which was a challenge for some to get the pieces in the right places. The kids also worked on an animal x-ray cut, match and paste. They really enjoyed debating the clues and where they matched. We also completed they January writing and coloring sample and I can tell they are really improving on coloring in the lines with control! For the last center we put our Legos for them to really work the fine motor muscles.
Next week we will be starting February with the letter Hh.
