Hi parents!
The kids had a great week with our frogs and farm! Here are all the details.
On Monday, we started the day with a Ff maze. Since we hadn’t reviewed the letter of the week yet, I think the kids did great! Later back in the classroom we started with circle time. We talked about the letter Ff and the sound it makes. The kids helped me think of lots of words that start with the letter F. After circle time I gave the kids a chance to play with all our farm toys. Free play is always a good way for the kids to develop social emotional skills. The kids played very well together. After that, it was our turn for our pictures to be taken, and all the kids brought their best smiles! Once back in the classroom we had a little time so we decided to play number bingo. This helps with number recognition and patience. The kids really do love playing games at the end of the day. After bringing bingo, I brought all the kids together again on the floor to read a book and also start our Heggerty curriculum. During our Heggerty time we go over rhyming, beginning sounds and ending sounds, and also how two words can come together to be one word. We will do our Heggerty once a day for the most part. It only takes about five minutes. At the end of the day, we read our daily devotional and prayer for the kids.
Tuesday we started the day coloring. I laid out a large coloring paper on the tables and the kids got to all color together as a team. After bathrooms and dancing, we came back to the classroom for circle time. We then started our centers. First Center was our the F says right cut and paste worksheet. Then the kids got a chance to play a cute little farm game of rolling the dice and taking turns with animal. Add another center the kids were able to roll the dice and count out smaller erasers to find the number on the frog page. They also used colored popsicle sticks to build fences for their farm cards. We finished the day doing our five minutes of Haggerty and reading our daily devotional. The kids really seem to enjoy our little prayer at the end of the day.
Wednesday, we started the day with a farm coloring page. Coloring is such a great way to develop the kids fine motor skills! After bathrooms and dancing, we went to the art room. Wednesdays are always art day! There we started a small frog craft project where we cut out lilypads. We’ll do a directed drawing of a frog next week to add to it. The kids are really getting good at cutting now! We also did a hand print for our ABC farm school art display. After art it was time for the Lake Hills fire department to come. The kids had an awesome time hearing all about what the firefighters do and what they look like in their gear! They were able to go out and see a fire truck and ambulance and sit inside them. It was a really fun day! We entered the day with our daily devotional of prayer.
On Thursday, we started the day with the kids playing toys together. The friendships that are developing are so sweet to see. Once we came back to our classroom for circle time we talked about the Ff and took attendance. The kids really do love having little jobs during the week like Attendance Helper. During centers we dot painted pigs with small Q-tips. I’m really trying to strengthen those fine motor muscles! In other centers, the kids practiced writing their Ff’s on our dry erase quick kits and they sorted beads onto my sheep cards with pipe cleaners and yarn. For the last center the kids played with kinetic sand and small toy farm animals. The kids love playing with kinetic sand! At the end of the day we had a little extra time so the kids got to play outside on the playground. They ask every day to go outside to the playground. Thank goodness for good weather! We ended our day with our five minutes of Haggerty and our daily devotional and prayer.
It was another great week! Next week is Rr week! We will be talking about rainbows and robots and rectangles.
