Hi Parents!
Another fun week of getting to know each other! This weeks theme was All About Me.
On Monday we started the week with a Lego man coloring sheet. After bathroom break and big room dancing we were back in our classroom for circle time. The kids are definitely getting the hang of circle time and sitting for about 15 minutes. This week I introduced them to classroom jobs where they will get a job every other week. We also talked about my coin reward system and our behavior clip chart. Every day the kids can earn a coin for good behavior such as listening and following directions. At the end of the week they will turn in their coins and if they have enough they can pick from my treasure box. If they’ve had a bad day at some point there is always ways to earn extra coins when I catch them being kind or being a good helper, etc. After circle time we began our centers of activities. The first center was sorting pom poms with tweezers to build those fine motor muscles. At another center I introduced them to our name writing quick kits where they trace the letters in their name then write them on their own. I will be sending home a copy of this so they can practice at home. They also worked on self portraits during centers by looking in a mirror to draw themselves. We also worked on our first creative writing which asked the question When I grow up I want to be….. The kids told me their idea and I wrote it for them to copy on their paper. They also drew what they thought. At the end of the day we went outside to play on the playground which is a definite favorite for the kids.
Tuesday the kids started the day looking at books on their own. Once they were back in the classroom after bathrooms and getting their wiggles out, we started center time. Today we talked about our calendar. We have a calendar helper who helps us count the days. We also talked about the days of the week and months of the year and learned songs to help us remember. After circle time we moved to centers. Today we focused on their names. At one center they put stickers on their name and at another they put PlayDoh on their name both are great fine motor builders. Another center was finding and coloring the letters in their name. We also worked on a multi step art project which you will find out about soon! You’ll be able to order items such as coffee mugs and magnets with this artwork on it. These name great Christmas or holiday gifts for relatives! At the end of the day we played a game, Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar which was a name recognition game. I was impressed that many kids did really well and even recognized some of their friends names. At the end of the day we read books together before dismissal.
On Wednesday as we always do at the end of the week we start the day with playing toys. After bathroom and big room wiggle time, we moved to the art room. Every Wednesday is art day! The kids worked on a Lego man craft of ripping paper and gluing it on the head of the Lego man. These are going to be so cute and will be finished next week. After art we returned to our classroom for some short play centers like Legos and Magnatiles. And the kids also drew their family and counted the number of family members. We ended the day with treasure box for everyone since everyone earned all their coins for the week.
It was so great seeing many of you at the Apple Orchard! It was a great day even though it was a little wet! Next week we will be starting our Letter of the Weeks with the letter Aa. Have a great weekend!
