Hi Parents!

Our Mm week was a fun one!  The kids are getting comfortable with school and each other.  Everyone is getting along really well!

Monday was Monster day!  We started the day with a monster coloring sheet.  Once back in the classroom we had circle time where I taught the kids all about the letter Mm and we thought of words that started this the M sound.  After our fun discussion we moved to centers.  The first center the kids completed the write, cut and paste The Mm Says worksheet. Cutting is starting to get easier for most!  Another center was the beginning of our monster craft where they used dot markers on our monster’s body.  We’ll finish these later this week.  The kids also rolled a dice and counted googly eyes onto a monster.  The last center was monster bead counting where the kids counted out beads to string on pipe cleaners on monster heads.  An awesome fine motor activity and of course we are getting in our math lesson too.  After we finished centers we had a little extra time for open play in our foyer area.  Open play is important as the kids develop social emotional skills.  The kids really loved playing with our little kitchen pretend play.  Before dismissal we had time for read aloud of some Mm books.

On Tuesday we learned about magnets.  Such a fun day! We started the day looking at my classroom books on their own.  Once back in the classroom we started circle time with reviewing the letter Aa and Mm.  We found words for both sounds.  We also talked about magnets and what makes them special.  During centers the kids got to play with all sorts of magnets on metal cookie sheets.  This is amazing for fine motor development. In another center the kids used Magnatiles as shape stencils with colored pencils.  Their creations were adorable. At another center the kids worked on matching upper and lower case magnetic letters on a standing white board.  The kids really enjoyed magnet day!

Wednesday is art day!  The day started with the kids practicing writing their names on our dry erase quick kits.  Really impressed with the progress.  Pencil grip is a struggle for some and we are trying to focus on writing with a capital letter at the beginning only then lower case.  After bathroom and dancing time, we went to our art room to paint with tin foil.  The tin foil creates the best texture for our moons that go with our astronauts from last week.  We also finished our monsters from Monday.  They turned out absolutely adorable!  I’ve hung them in the hallway.  Once back in our classroom we read the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin.  The kids then worked on another craft where they cut out a muffin and added blueberries to it.  To finish it they counted the blueberries and wrote the number on the muffin.  Another center was a creative writing paper where I asked them what they would give a moose.  They copied the word on their paper and drew a picture of it.  We’ll do creative writing like this periodically throughout the year.  We ended the day with eating muffins!

On Thursday we had fun with mustaches!  We started the day playing toys with our friends.  Once back in the classroom we went right into circle time and talked about the calendar change to October.  In centers the kids measured different sizes of mustaches with stacking blocks.  Another center the kids colored and cut out a mustache which they glued on a stick.  At the last center they cut out their moon and assembled all the parts for their astronaut on the moon art project.  I plan on hanging these in the big room!  At the end of the day we played one of my favorite games, Pin the Mustache on Mrs Kim!  We had so much fun closing our eyes and seeing where they ended up.  So many giggles!

Such a fun week!  Next week is Ff week with frogs and our farm!  Thank you!
