Hi Parents!
What an amazing first week of school! I absolutely loved having your kids in class this week. And I can’t wait to learn all about them and discover their personalities. We are really getting to know each other and I already see some budding friendships! Here are some of the details of what we did during our school days:
The first day of school was Tuesday and everyone did great! We introduced our normal routine and the kids seemed to understand for the most part. We started our day with a First Day of School coloring sheet for our morning work. I can tell who likes to color already. Once everyone has arrived we line up and make our way to the bathrooms. Following bathroom time the kids have fun dancing and doing yoga with our two assistants, Mrs. Michelle and Mrs. Veronica. After they have all their wiggles out they return to the classroom for circle time. During circle time we talked about how our class will run, the schedule and we brainstormed some rules. We also read a first day jitters book. After circle time we some quick 5 minute centers which they rotated to each. The centers were playing with PlayDoh for some fine motor work and matching upper/lowercase popsicles. We also did their first day handprints and another coloring sheet. The biggest learning opportunity was learning the transitions from center to center. After centers we came back to circle time for our end of day discussions.
Wednesday was an unusual day for sure with the church having an event so there was more chaos than normal. But the kids handled it so well! We started the day with some toys for get them all playing together. We walked to the bathrooms and got our wiggles out too. Once back in the classroom we started circle time. We learned the Pledge of Allegiance. We also talked about how our classroom works. Wednesday is always Art Day so we worked on a super cute pencil craft that will hang in our hallway all year. The craft was definitely a challenge for them but it helped me see where I can best work on fine motor skills. After the the art project we had some extra time so they played with some of my super special toys.
On Thursday we started the day with another coloring sheet. Coloring is an awesome fine motor activity. After bathrooms and dancing we came back to the classroom for circle time. The kids learned our process for checking in when they arrive each day and they did great! After circle time we started centers. Today the kids worked on a pencil control booklet and they did great! They also did some lacing and worked with our geoboards which have them using rubber bands that stretch to make shapes and letters. More great fine motor work. At the end of centers we came together to read more books together.
Everyday this week the kids were able to pick from my treasure box at the end of the day. Starting next week we will start our coin system where they earn a coin every day and turn them in at the end of the week for a treasure box.
Thank you so much for all the support and sharing your kids with me. See you next week!
