This week we focused on the letter Yy. We talked about the sound the letter Yy makes and words that begin with the letter Yy. We came up with yellow, yarn, yo-yo, yak and yogurt.

On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of Easter. For morning centers, we played a roll-a-bunny game, did our Yy says /y/ page, matched upper- and lower-case ABCs with easter eggs, and laced pipe cleaners through a cookie rack to help with fine motor. For afternoon centers, we traced our ABCs with an easter egg theme, tanagrams, magnet fun, and made patterns out of easter eggs and egg cartons. At the end of the day, we practiced letter recognition by playing ABC bingo. Also, we read books on Easter.

On Wednesday, we focused on the theme of yarn. For morning centers, we made Yy out of tanagram pieces, did a yarn art activity, traced/wrote the letter Yy, and found pictures that began with the letter Yy. In the afternoon, we had specials with all four all-day teachers. At the end of the day, we did yoga with Mrs. Leslie’s class. We read books that related to the letter Yy.

On Thursday, we focused on the theme of yellow. For morning art, we marble painted a bunny. For afternoon centers, we made numbers with pop-its, did a yellow cut and paste page, made our ABCs with geoboards, and put together color puzzles. At the end of the day, we colored a spring color-by-letter coloring page. We read books about the color yellow.

Until next week,
