Hi Parents,

We had a really great week celebrating spring and earth day. Here is a snap shot…

On Tuesday our theme was ‘Enjoying Spring.’ In morning centers, the kids measured flowers with plastic links and counted the links, they made flowers on a popsicle stick, they worked on a spring coloring book, and they played with sand and butterfly and frog containers. In afternoon centers, the kids played a buddy match game, they put erasers on the letters for the month, and they played with a kinetic sand and plastic flower building set. We ended the day with a flower count the room. The kids had to find the flowers on the walls and count the bees on the flower, then they had to write that number 4 times.

On Wednesday we celebrated earth day. In morning centers, the kids did an earth day I spy, they picked pictures out of a basket and decided if the item should be thrown away or recycled, and they worked on an earth day color by letter. After morning centers some women from Lake County Solid Waste Management Enviromobile Education group came and talked to the kids about littering and recycling. They had the chance to make a litter police badge! In afternoon centers, the kids cut and glued the earth for art, they build with DUPLO blocks, and they finished the color by letter from the morning. We ended the day by finishing up work and playing with toys.

On Thursday we celebrated earth day again. In morning centers, the kids picked up ‘garbage’ (crumpled up letters) from the floor and wrote the letter that they found, they worked on an earth day themed do-a-dot, and they did an activity about how to help the earth. In afternoon centers, the kids painted a balloon with balloons, they cut and glued an earth day finish the pattern, and they played with fidgets, squishies and magnets. We ended the day with some songs and the kids had a chance to share their flat Stanley with the class.

Next week we will talk about the letter Bb. Looking forward to it!

Take Care,

Missy
