Hi Parents,

We had a great week talking about the letter Xx. Here is a snapshot…

On Tuesday our theme was ‘X Marks the spot.’ In morning centers, the kids cut and glued their own treasure map, they played with kinetic sand in treasure boxes, and they found shapes in a rice bin and placed them on a treasure map. In the afternoon, before our extra big room time, the kids cut and glued their X page. For our extra big room time the kids played ‘I can do that,’ which is a Cat in the hat themed game where the kids pick cards and it gives different instructions. We have played it before and the kids love it. We ended the day with a treasure hunt. The kids used ‘binoculars’ (2 toilet paper rolls painted and taped together) to find all of their pieces that they had cut and glued on their treasure map in morning centers. They found the final X with coins and each student was able to pick out a coin and take it home. They loved it!

On Wednesday our theme was ‘X-Ray.’ In morning centers, the kids worked on an x-ray color by letter, they found x-ray pieces that matched an animal and then looked at the bones through a magnifying glass, and they traced x-ray pictures. In afternoon centers, the kids drew their own x-ray by following 6 simple directions, they built with LEGO’s, and they colored, cut and glued an X puzzle. We ended the day with art. The kids cut and glued a bear hibernating, then they painted and glued cotton balls for snow. These turned out really cute and are hanging outside our classroom.

On Thursday our theme was ‘X at the end.’ In morning centers, the kids played in my mini sand boxes, they cut and glued the letter X at the ends of words, and they worked on a creative writing page that went along with the book ‘It’s Not a Box.’ for afternoon centers, the kids cut and glued bones on an X, which was a great challenge for them! They also put together winter number puzzles and used magnets with magnet wands. We ended the day with toys.

Next week is a new month and all new letters. We will start with the letter Hh. Looking forward to it!

Take Care,

Missy
