Hi Parents

We had a fun week learning about the letter Xx. Here is a snapshot…

On Tuesday our theme was ‘X-Ray.’ In morning centers, the kids worked on an x-ray color by letter, they traced their hand and glued ‘bones’ (Q-Tips) inside, they cut and glued their X page, and they matched x-rays of animals to the correct animal. They then used a magnifying glass to look at the bones. In afternoon centers they traced x-ray pages, they drew a person as an x-ray (this was guided by me and a great challenge for them!), and they cut and glued a snowman on to a snowy page. We ended the day with toys, which was a chance for me to finish up some evaluating I still needed to do.

On Wednesday our theme was ‘X at the end.’ In the morning we started specials again! This week, the kids learned Spanish and zoo phonics. Next week they will learn science/math and sign language. We switched what we were doing just a smidge so each topic could have more time for these sessions. In the afternoon the kids cut and glued x at the end of words and they worked on a creative writing page that goes with the book ‘Not a box.’ They had to made the rectangle on their page in to something else like in the book i.e., a robot, a pirate ship, a hot air balloon, etc. These turned out cute. We ended the day with art. The kids glued colored tissue paper on a yellow page to make the outline of a mitten.

On Thursday our theme was ‘X marks the spot.’ In morning centers, the kids cut and glued a treasure map, they worked on beginning sounds, and they found shapes and glued them on a treasure map. In afternoon centers, the kids finished their treasure maps, they strung beads on string, and they made shapes with rubber bands on GEO boards. We ended the day with a treasure hunt! The kids were given ‘binoculars’ (toilet paper rolls) and had to find all of the pictures on their treasure maps and color them. When we walked back into our classroom their was a big X on our table with lots of coins. The kids each picked 1 to take home. I posted pictures on GroupMe!

Next week is a new month and all new letters and numbers. We will start with the letter Ll next week. Looking forward to it!

Take Care,

Missy
