Hi Parents,

We had a great week learning about the letter E! I was actually out sick Tuesday and Wednesday, but the kids were in great hands with Mrs. Christy! Here’s a snap shot…

On Tuesday we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. In morning centers, the kids counted Dr. Seuss characters and clipped the correct number with clothes pins, they put together Dr. Seuss puzzles and built with STEM builders, and they worked on a creative writing page that said, ‘Big____,Little____,What begins with___?’ They used the first letter of their name to fill in the blanks and then drew a picture of something that starts with that letter. These turned out so cute! In afternoon centers, the kids worked on a Cat and the Hat upper and lowercase letter match, they stacked red cups and white squares to make Dr. Seuss’s hat, and they cut and glued rhyming words on a Dr. Seuss hat. They ended the day with their monthly name writing and coloring page and doing some yoga.

On Wednesday our theme was ‘Elephants.’ In morning centers, the kids worked on an elephant color by number, they practiced writing the letter Ee, and they looked for elephants in plastic eggs. They had to say the letter or number on the egg before they could open it to see if an elephant was inside. In the afternoon, the kids rotated through specials learning Spanish, math/science, sign language, and zoo phonics. They ended the day with toys!

On Thursday our theme was ‘Humpty Dumpty (egg).’ In morning centers, the kids counted and stacked cups and put humpty dumpty on top of the ‘wall,’ they put together egg puzzles matching pictures with their beginning letter, and they cut and glued a cracked egg back together. In afternoon centers, the kids put together puzzles, they traced a pattern on an egg and cut out the egg, and they finished cutting and gluing legs and arms on the cracked egg from morning centers to make humpty dumpty. We ended the day with art. The kids sponge painted ‘Elmer the Elephant’ who is a character from a book we read earlier in the week. Ask your child what made Elmer special!

Next week we will talk about the letter U. Looking forward to it!

Take Care,

Missy
