Hi Parents,

We had a fun week with the letter N! Here’s a snapshot…

On Tuesday our theme was Noodle Necklaces. In centers the kids drew a card and counted noodles onto a stick, they practiced writing the letter n, and they made noodle necklaces. Those are always a big hit! In afternoon centers the kids carefully put beads on to spaghetti noodles, painted with noodles, made shapes with kinetic sand, and build with LEGO’s. We ended the day with our alphabet soup game. I hide pictures that start with our letter for the week behind numbers on our calendar and the kids have to tell me the number before ‘finding’ the picture. This is a game I try to play weekly. The kids love it, and it reinforces our letter of the week and it’s beginning sound and also number recognition!

On Wednesday our theme was Numbers. In centers the kids looked at number wheels and clipped clothes pins on all of the ways the number in the middle was represented (i.e., fingers, dice, tally marks, etc.). The kids also made numbers with Duplo blocks and practiced writing the number and put together snap cubes to make numbers. In the afternoon the kids rotated through specials learning Spanish, sign language, zoo phonics, and math/science. We ended the day with a few songs, ‘The Nose Book,’ and chapel! It was a busy day. In chapel the kids learned about packing the boxes for Operation Christmas Child. We will do that next week.

On Thursday our theme was Names. In centers the kids practiced writing their names and then built their names with stickers, they rainbow wrote their names, and they marked ‘spot the number’ mats with erasers. In afternoon centers the kids worked with wooden puzzles, they laced letter lacing cards, and they cut out their name letter by letter and glued it on a separate piece of paper. We ended the day with art. I had to pivot from my original idea and the kids ended up putting stickers on their name in bubble letters. They turned out cute!

Next week we look at the letter Z. Looking forward to it!
