Hi Parents,
We had a great week learning about the letter Nn. Here is a snap shot…
On Tuesday our theme was ‘Names.’ In morning centers, the kids cut out the letters of their name and glued them on to a separate piece of paper, they cut and glued their N page, and they worked on a worksheet specific to their name. In afternoon centers they cut, sorted and glued rectangles and squares. For our extra big room in the afternoon we played ‘the pencil’ game and ‘boom, clap, grab.’ We ended our time with the name game. Most of these games involve practicing listening! Ask your child about them, they are fun ones. We ended the day doing a ‘hey riddle riddle’ for the letter Rr. For hey riddle riddle, the kids come up one at a time, they pick a card, I read the riddle, and they have to figure out which picture (beginning with r) the riddle is about. This is a great activity for rhyming, letter recognition, as well as working on beginning sounds!
On Wednesday our theme was ‘Numbers.’ In the morning the kids rotated through specials learning sign language, Spanish, science, and zoo phonics. In afternoon centers, the kids stamped numbers on the letter N, they ‘nailed’ the letter N with a golf tee and mallet, they made numbers with Duplo blocks, and they build with LEGO. We ended the day with art. This week they made themselves with the first letter of their name. They water colored the background of their page and decorated it, then they stuck the first letter of their name, then they glued their head on and drew arms and legs. These turned out really cute! I’ll post a picture on GroupMe once I hang them in the hallway.
On Thursday our theme was ‘Noodle Necklaces.’ In morning centers, the kids drew a card and counted noodles on to sticks, they made a noodle necklace, they created some noodle art by gluing noodles on to a page, and they used noodles with play dough. In afternoon centers, the kids put together puzzles, they matched upper and lowercase letters, and they worked on several cutting pages. We ended the day with a ‘hey riddle riddle’ for the letter Rr.
Next week we will talk about the letter Zz. Looking forward to it!
Take Care,
Missy
