This week we focused on the letter Zz. We talked about the sound the letter Zz makes and words that begin with the letter Zz. We came up with zoo, zipper, zebra, zig zag and zero.

On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of zoo. For start-up, we colored a Zz page while we waited for all of our friends to arrive. For morning centers, we did zoo themed tanagrams, played with zoo animals with kinetic sand, did a “favorite zoo animal” creative writing, and played an I-spy zoo game. Then we colored a color by number zoo animal page. After lunch, we did our Zz says /z/ page. At the end of the day, we finished coloring the zoo coloring page. We also read books with a zoo theme.

On Wednesday, we focused on the theme of zig zags and zippers. For start-up, we practiced tracing/writing our names while our friends arrived. In the morning, we had “specials” with all five full-day teachers. For morning centers, we linked together linking chains to match the color/number on the card, worked on recognizing the letter Zz by finding all the letter Zz on a maze, practiced tracing/writing the letter Zz, and finished our pumpkin push pin art from last week. In the afternoon, we worked on a cut and paste “Zz is for Zipper” page. At the end of the day, we did our circle time and read more books with the letter Zz.

On Thursday, we focused on the theme of Zeke the Zebra. For start-up, we looked at books while we waited for our friends to arrive. For morning centers, we cut out the letter Z for a zebra craft, matched our ABCs with a zoo theme, did a cut and paste zoo patterning, and worked on a zoo themed worksheet. In the afternoon, we worked on our “Z is for Zebra” craft.

Until next week,
