This week we focused on the letter Zz. We talked about the sound the letter Zz makes and words that start with the letter Zz. We came up with zoo, zipper, zebra, zero, zig zag and zucchini.

On Tuesday, we worked with the theme of, zoo. For morning centers, we made zoo animals out of tanagram shapes, did our Zz says /z/ cutting page, a zoo creative writing, and matched ABCs with a zoo theme. For afternoon centers, we traced/wrote the letter Zz, found letter Zz, I-spy with zoo animals and patterned with zoo animals. Also in the afternoon, we packed shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas Child. We were able to do 5 girl boxes and 5 boy boxes. Thank you to all that donated to this wonderful cause. We are going to make some little girls’ and boys’ day.

On Wednesday, we worked with the theme of zig zags and zippers. For morning centers, we linked linking chains to match the number cards, did a Z is for zipper cutting page, matched our ABCs with zig zag ABC cards and made zig zags and Zz out of playdoh. In the afternoon, we met with all four all-day teachers for specials. Before we went home, we played a riddle game with letter Zz words. At the end of the day, we practiced zipping our coats. Please keep working on this at home with your child.

On Thursday, we worked with the theme of zebras. For morning art, we painted with a fork to paint a mane around a lion face. The kids did a really good job. For afternoon centers, we colored a color-by-number lion page, pasted on black stripes on a letter Zz for our zebra craft, did a letter Zz review page, and played with zoo animals and kinetic sand. For the last half hour, we finished our Zz is for zebra craft.  Also, since the day was nice, the kids got to go outside for recess and big room time.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Until next week,
