This week we focused on the letter Rr. We talked about the sound the letter Rr makes and words that start with the letter Rr. We came up with rainbow, rocket, robots, red, rectangle, ring and racecar.

On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of rainbows. For start-up, we colored an Rr page. For Morning centers, we counted out ten fames and then colored the correct number, traced/wrote the letter Rr, matched our upper and lower ABCs with a rainbow theme, and used colored sticker dots and made a rainbow. In The afternoon, a fireman came with a fire truck. He talked about fire safety and we then got to ride in the firetruck around the school parking lot. We had fun!!!!! At then end of the day, since there wasn’t a lot of time, we played with our friends in play centers. We also read books about rainbows.

On Wednesday, we focused on the theme of rectangles & robots. For start-up, we practiced tracing/writing our names while we waited for all our friends to arrive. We then went into “specials”. For centers, we used “brainflakes” to match the number of robot gears on the card, did our Rr says /r/ page, played a roll-a-robot game, and made robots with play-doh. In The afternoon, we made rectangle robots. Here we worked on our following direction skills, cutting and pasting skills, too. We also read books about robots.

On Thursday, we focused on the theme of rockets. For start-up, we built with blocks and worked together with our friends. For morning art, we made an art project with rainbow names. For morning centers, we matched rockets and stars for 1:1 correspondence, did a creative writing page, matched our ABCs with a rocket theme, and traced our ABCs with a rocket theme. After lunch and recess, we finished working on other projects that need to be finished. We read books about rockets.

Please make sure you are practicing with your child their names and using the correct penicil grip. If you are looking for a good pencil grip, you can find some at Dollar Tree. Those are the ones I used with students in class. Also, since coat season is coming up, please work with your child on putting their own coat on and possibly zipping up their own coats. This will help out tremendously in the winter. Thank you!!!

Until next week,

Mrs. Brandi
