Hi Parents,
We had another great week! Here is a snapshot…
On Tuesday we had our Harvest Party, which was so much fun! Thank you to everyone that came and helped and/or donated. In the afternoon we did some fun centers. The kids spun a spinner and counted spiders on to sticks, they drew a card, said the letter and then had the chance to look inside a small plastic pumpkin for a spider. They also put rubber bands on small pumpkins and made sticker faces on pumpkins. We ended the day outside!
On Wednesday we wore orange and spent the morning doing specials. The kids rotated through each classroom learning Spanish, sign language, zoo phonics and science. After lunch, the kids put sticker faces on their small pumpkins, they cut out and decorated a paper pumpkin, and they played with magna tiles and fidget toys. For art the kids used strips of paper to fill in the negative space of a pumpkin. These turned out cute and will go up in the hall this week!
On Thursday our theme was ‘pumpkin palooza.’ In morning centers the kids rolled dice and counted teeth (candy corn) on to a monster, they cut and glued the face of a pumpkin, they played in a water center with spiders, pumpkins and bottles, and they worked on a pin poke in the shape of a pumpkin. In the afternoon the kids finished work from their morning centers and also did a small write the room. Instead of putting the cards on the walls though, I put them in pumpkins around the room. The kids had to pick out a picture of a monster, from a pumpkin, that had a color written on it. They had to find that same monster on their paper and then write the color. Letter formation is tricky for these guys, they really have to look and concentrate. I’m really proud of how well they did! We ended our day by opening a small pumpkin and looking inside. I let those that wanted to touch the goop/seeds. Then the kids decorated 2 pumpkins with markers. It was a fun way to end the day, I posted some pictures on GroupMe.
Next week is a whole new month and new letters! We will start by talking about the letter Z. Looking forward to it!
Take Care,
Missy
