This week we focused on the letter Mm. We talked about the sound the letter Mm makes and words that start with the letter Mm. We came up with milk, monkey, mustache, moose and muffin. We, also, have quite a few friends that their names begin with the letter Mm. We have Macy, McKenzie, Matthew and Maddie.
On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of mustache. We colored and discussed the pictures on our Mm page while we waited for our friends to arrive. For morning centers, we measured mustaches with unifix cubes, practiced cutting with mustache faces, practiced tracing/writing the letter Mm, and played a spin and match the color mustache game. We also practiced cutting and glueing a “M is for Mustache” craft. We also worked on the beginning sound of the letter Mm by pasting and cutting the Mm says /m/ page. At the end of the day, we painted out hands for our Original Works project. We also read My m Book and Pete the Cat and the Magic Sunglasses.
On Wednesday, we focused on the theme If You Give a Moose a Muffin. We practiced tracing/writing our names while we waited for our friends to arrive for the school day. For morning centers, we counted the muffins on a clip card and put a clothespin on the right number, cut and pasted a If You Give a Moose a Muffin sequencing page, matched our upper and lower ABCs with a moose/muffin theme, and found the letter Mm with a Mm maze and a find the letter Mm page. We continued to work on our Original Works project by putting yellow fingerprints for the flowers. After lunch and recess, we got to taste muffins!!! They were yummy!!! At the end of the day, we worked in groups making a muffin craft with tissue paper. We also read the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin.
On Thursday, we had our field trip to county Line Orchard!!! It was a hot but beautiful day!!! It was nice to see everyone and get to talk to all of you!! I hope you all had fun!!!
Please continue to practice tracing/writing your child’s name and practiced cutting by using the correct grips. It is very important that each child master these tasks for kindergarten. We practice these multiple times in class but extra work at home will really help them achieve these tasks.
Also, if you have not turned in your paperwork yet (registration form, GroupMe form, allergy form, etc.), please do so ASAP. These are very important for me to have on file throughout the year. I am only going to be using GroupMe to contact parents throughout the year!!!!
As always, if you ever have any questions and/or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Until next week,
Mrs. Brandi
