Hi Parents,

We had a great week with the letter Aa! Here is a snapshot…

On Tuesday our theme was Astronauts. In centers the kids used aluminum foil balls to mark moon 10 frames, they painted the moon with foil (this is part of a bigger project we will finish next week), and they cut and completed a sheet with beginning word sounds for the letter A. In afternoon centers the kids worked on wooden puzzles with cards, finished work from the morning, and put together 24-piece puzzles (these are a challenge!). We finished the day by reading the book ‘Goodnight Moon.’ First, we looked for the hidden mice on the colored pages, then we did an activity with the words that rhyme in the book.

On Wednesday the theme was 10 apples up on top. We started the day by reading the book ’10 Apples Up On Top.’ In centers the kids made a pin hole apple pattern, they colored by shape, and glued apples above their picture like they had apples on their head. Each apple had a letter of their name in it. In the afternoon the kids, build the letter Aa with unifix cubes and practiced writing it, hole punched apples, and finished the work from the morning. We ended the day by playing in groups while I finished doing some evaluation questions with the kids.

On Thursday our theme was tasting apples. In centers the kids made letters with pop-its, cut and glued an apple in sequence based on how many bites were taken out of it, and they taste tested red, green and yellow apples! They picked their favorite, voted on it and then drew a picture of themselves eating their apples. In the afternoon we looked at the class favorite, counted the votes, and then graphed how many of each color the class liked. The kids also build with magnetic tiles and build letters with large plastic pieces that pop together. We ended the day with art. The kids painted with apples and also painted a rainbow for their original works piece that you will see very soon.

I have loved getting to know your kids! They are starting to get used to being at school all day and have our schedule down. I know it will only continue to get better!
