This week we focused on the letter Aa. we talked about the sound the letter Aa makes and words that begin with the letter Aa. We came up with apple, astronaut, ant, alligator and angel.
On Tuesday, we focused on the theme of “A is for Apple”. For start-up, we colored an Aa page while we waited for all of our friends to arrive. For morning centers, we used apple erasers to count out how many the muffin tin showed, worked on our cutting/glueing by doing an apple sequencing page, traced/wrote the letter Aa and did a push pin apple art. In the afternoon, we worked on our “Original Works” project!!! At the end of the day, we had our first “chapel” of the year. Here we listened and learned about the bible story of Adam & Eve. We also read books about apples.
On Wednesday, we continued to focus on apples. While waiting for our friends to arrive, we practiced tracing/writing our first names. For morning centers, we played an apple roll & cover game, did an apple letter find game, matched upper and lowercase alphabet, and built towers with unifix cubes by following the number on apple cards. Then we worked on the Aa says /a/ page. after lunch, we got to taste different color apples. We tasted a green, yellow and red apple. Then we went into our classroom and worked on an apple tasting worksheet where we documented if we liked the color apple or not. We also read more book on apples and the apple orchard.
On Thursday, we focused on the theme of astronauts. For start-up, we played with blocks and other manipulatives while we waited for our friends to arrive. For morning centers, we made ten frames with “moon rocks”, matched upper and lowercase alphabet with a rocket theme and we played a “Roll-a-planet” game. For afternoon art, we painted the moon with bunched up foil and colored our astronaut and flag for our astronaut craft that we will finish next week. At the end of the day, since it was a busy week, we got to play with our friends with rotating through play centers. We read books about space and astronauts.
