This week we focused on the letter Mm. We talked about the sound the letter Mm makes and words that start with the letter Mm. We came up with, as a class, monkey, muffin, moose, mouse and mustache.

On Tuesday, we focused on the book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin. We read the book in circle time. During morning centers, we clipped clothespins on muffin number clip cards, found the letter Mm on a worksheet, matched upper- and lower-case ABCs with a moose/muffin theme, and practiced tracing/writing the letter Mm. In the afternoon, after lunch, we made a muffin craft with tissue paper and blue circles (blueberries). At the end of the day, we got to eat muffins. They were yummy!!!!

On Wednesday, we focused on the theme of mustaches. In circle time, we read the book, Moosetache. During morning centers, we measured different sized mustaches with unifix cubes, practiced cutting with a mustached themed cutting page, started a “M is for Mustache” craft, and played a spin and match the color mustache game. During afternoon centers, we made ABCs with plastic pieces, made our numbers out of snap cubes, finished up the “M is for Mustache” craft, and colored our September monthly coloring page. In the afternoon, we played color/shape bingo.

On Thursday, we focused on the color of the month, red. We got to wear red to school. We read the book, Red. During art, we stamped/painted a letter M with marshmallows. For afternoon centers, we counted apples erasers with numbered muffin tins, cut and pasted the Mm says /m/ page, did a moose creative writing, and made “mud pies” with pie tin recipe cards by following directions. In the afternoon, we went into the big room with Mrs. Leslie’s class and played a listening game. We also had “chapel” in the church before we went home.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Until next week,
