This week we learned about the letter A. Tuesday we started the week with an apple coloring page. In centers, we practiced writing upper and lowercase A for our writing center, matched letter pairs for our phonics center, counted apples for our math center, and did a push pin apple page for our fine motor center. In art, we made laminated apples with tissue paper. These look great in our classroom window! We also finished our original works and played apple dominoes. Then we got to play in the big room with our friends. At the end of the day, we had our first chapel time. We learned about being kind to others and to not hurt them on the inside or outside.
Wednesday we continued our apple week wearing the color red and writing in our quick kits for morning work. In morning centers, we traced apple mazes for writing, did our A cutting page for phonics and fine motor, counted how many apples for math, and started our red books. In afternoon centers, we matched apple cards, practicing writing a’s on the big dry erase board, painted with paint dotters, and continued our red books. At the end of the day, we played with our friends and continued beginning of the year evaluations.
Thursday was our apple tasting day! We started the day playing toys with friends. In morning centers, we tasted 3 different color apples and recorded our favorites. Red was our most loved apple, followed by yellow, and then green last. We played with real dominoes and constructed things with straws and connectors. In afternoon centers, we did beginning letter sounds, made our own apple puzzles, and finished any makeup work from the week. At the end of the day, we played with our friends and had story time.
See you next week for our Astronaut day to end September. Then we will learn the letter O to start October! Owls, opposites, and observing the outdoors.
