Happy first week of school! You can find everything we did for the week on this web page and I will also send pictures on Group Me.
Tuesday was our first day. We started the day coloring a first day of school paper for our morning work. Then we had circle time. We talked about classroom jobs, took attendance, went over the calendar and our letters numbers and shapes for the month. We also talked about the weather and what our schedule looks like for the day. Then we took our bathroom break and had foyer time. Next we went back to the classroom for centers. The kids rotate around the room doing different centers. For our writing center, they wrote their name and colored a school for their first day paper, in Phonics we did a what’s in a name page where they wrote their name, what their name starts with, and counted how many letters. For math, we did a counting caterpillar puzzle and for sensory, we played in the sensory bin filled with kinetic sand and toys. Then we washed our hands for lunch, the kids ate lunch, and then they went outside for recess. When they came back, they had another bathroom break and then we came back to our classroom to finish circle time and read a story. Then we got to get out of the classroom to have art class. We made pencils where they wrote their name colored and cut and glued them onto a yellow paper. These are hanging in our hallway and we will compare them to the end of the year pencils. We also did our first day hand prints. Then we went back to the class to finish our art projects and play with our friends to end the day.
Wednesday was our 2nd day of school and we started the day playing toys with friends. Then we played in big room and had our bathroom break. For morning centers, we did pencil control books for writing, beginning letter sound puzzle for phonics, picture dominoes for math, and pop its for sensory. Then we did our circle time, washed our hands for lunch, had lunch and recess. After that, we had another bathroom break and story time. For afternoon centers, we painted with paint dotters on a circle page, drew circles and ovals, traced bingo chips on drawing boards, and played with other bigger pop its. Then we used our class rope with handles to practice lining up and walking. We took a walk around the school to end the day.
Thursday we finished up our welcome week by practicing writing our names in our quick kits. Then we did circle time, bathroom break, and foyer time. For morning centers, we wrote on dry erase boards for writing, popsicle letter match toys for phonics, oval books for math, and lacing cards for sensory. Then we washed our hands, had lunch and recess, and a bathroom break. For afternoon centers, we finished our oval books, matched Lego letters, played memory games, and used tangrams for the first time. We even got to match Legos with their cards to practice patterns. We went outside to play on the playground to end our day.
