What a wonderful first week ! The first few weeks are a learning curve. We are getting used to each other and learning all the rules and procedures at school. We give a lot of grace the first two weeks but so far they’re doing great.

This was a short week for us and I’m looking forward to our first full week next week. This week was all about being welcomed into school. We kept things fairly simple until we get the hang of things.

Tuesday during centers we practiced writing names in our erasable ‘quick kits’, painted hands to send home their first day of school hand prints, and worked some fine motor muscles by tearing up paper to decorate our glue bottle craft. During our circle time / group work we used some ice breaker questions to learn about each other, and went over some classroom rules.

Wednesday  I used a hair template to test out the kids cutting skills, decorated some back to school pictures using paint dotters, and let them cut out the letters in their names to make school buses with their names on it. During circle time/ group work the class practiced writing and tracing with the pencil control booklet that I sent home. Tracing anything is a wondeful pre writing tool that we use frequently early on .

Thursday morning we had our very first art project! They colored and cut out pieces to a pencil  and then glued them together ! Cutting skills are one that start out pretty low but they catch on really quick.  During centers they used peg boards and rubber bands to recreate letters and shapes, and were introduced to our classroom busy boxes. I have a case of 14 boxes I created to practice all sorts of prek brain tools. I have lacing for fine motor, color sorting, counting clip cards, number puzzles, and hole punch strips!! Each kiddo picks a box and works on that for a center.

Next week is All About Me week!! We will see you Monday!!!
