You’ve got a friend at ABC !!

This week we had so much fun with our Toy Story theme!

On Tuesday we used Toy Story clip cards to help our one to one counting and number recognition . This activity also helps strengthen those fine motor muscles in their hands by squeezing the clothes pins onto the numbers. They also got some extra practice writing their names using their name tracing quick kits. For those that don’t have their names down yet it helps with letter formation and if they can write it on their own, it helps keep it to the correct size letters and only using an uppercase at the beginning .

For centers on Wednesday the class used Toy Story picture puzzles. If they put the numbers on the bottom of the pieces in the correct order, it made a Toy Story photo. This was great for number order 0-10. The class also borrowed Mrs Missys homemade “claw machine” . She had aliens in a small tent with pompoms and the kids used tongs to “claw” the aliens out . Great work for fine motor! To help with letter recognition the kids picked a letter out of a bucket and had to find the matching letter on their papers.

To finish our theme on Thursday in art we made our very own handprint Forky! The kids traced their own hands and drew on Forkys face. They brought these home in their folders and were so excited to show you! Today I also brought in all of my kids old Toy Story toys. We had lots of figurines and Pizza Planet so we had a little extra play time . They also worked on some cutting today. I will be saving samples throughout the year and our first sample was today. There were 5 lines they needed to cut and they got progressively more difficult. It’ll be great to see the progress at the end of the year .

Next week we start with our letters of the week. Starting with letter Aa. Tuesday and Thursday are Apple days and Thursday is for astronauts!

Have a wonderful weekend
