“T” is for Turkey. “T” is for Thanksgiving. “T” is for Ten.
The focus this week was giving thanks, the letter “T” and the number “10”. Chapel this week focused on “giving”. The children watched a video about the donations boxes.
The kids practiced counting backwards from 10 to 1 and blasting off several times a day. We also did fun finger math each day in circle: 5+5, 4+6 . . . and other combinations to get to 10. The game BINGO was introduced on Thursday. We will be playing letter or number BINGO on days that we can’t get outside.
On Monday, The class assembled boxes for needy children. Our class put together 5 boy and 5 girl boxes. The children were very helpful in putting everything in the boxes and ended the activity by saying a Thankful prayer. We also made Turkey handprints and sorted healthy foods and sweet treats.
On Tuesday, we read the story I know and Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie. We talked about how to make a pumpkin pie. The kids made a piece of pumpkin pie in art. The class also practiced writing the letter “T”. As a whole the class is doing great with both writing and recognizing their letters. We play a lower case/upper case letter match game at the end of each day – they are becoming experts.
On Wednesday, we read the story Stone Soup. This was the favorite story of the week! It was a good opener for reinforcing eating healthy and how sweets are just treats. The class also cut out turkey feathers and made a sponge paint turkey which is decorating the hallway. All the kids can now cut with limited to no help!
On Thursday, we talked about what we are thankful for this year. The kids painted thankful placemats and practiced writing the number 10.
Looking ahead: next week – “T” is for tree.
Have a great weekend.
