We started the new year out learning about the letter Ww.
Tuesday was our welcome back to school day. We introduced the letter Ww and tried our best to get back into the school routine. I kept things kind of easy peasy with writing the letter Ww in our quick kits, doing a letter Ww coloring page, and some matching upper and lower case letters.
Next up was wacky watermelon Wednesday! Our fine motor muscles got a work out while each kid cut out two letter W’s, one red ,and one green. Once they cut them out they glued them on top of one another to make their own watermelon. We also used watermelon seeds to do our letter scavenger hunt, and our Ww cut and paste page, which helps them learn some words that start with Ww.
Thursday was all about Winter. For the winter theme the class matched mugs of hot cocoa and marshmallows using their beginning letter sounds, and used winter mini erasers to fill in tens frames. For our writing center they did a creative writing paper. They got to fill in a blank using their imagination . The prompt was “ my winter mitten is so big, it has a ______ in it.” Some of these answers surprise me with how creative they can be!!
January is also when we do our mid year evaluations. We have these completed by parent teacher conferences so we can show you each kids progress from their eval that was done over the summer, or the beginning of the year. I am always striving for progress, not perfection!! Each child learns differently and at different speeds. My goal is to see any type of progress whether it be social, emotional, or academic.
