“W” is for Winter Weather.
This week the children learned about winter weather and two animals that love winter weather, polar bears and penguns.
On Monday, we read Jan Brett’s story The Three Snow Bears. It is a fun take on the classic story Goldilocks. The children learned how polar bears stay warm and created a picture of a polar bear in the snow using white paint on black paper.
On Tuesday, we read The Emperor’s Egg. The children learned about several different kinds of penguins. We focused on the Emperor penguin who lives in the coldest paert of the world! The class also did a penguin math sheet and made a very cute penguin that will be displayed in the big room for the open house and conferences.
On Wednesday, we continued to talk about penguins. We also created necklaces using black and white beads, focused on opposites and circle and patterns in centers.
On Thursday, we wrapped up our unit on winter weather and finished all the mid year assessments.
Looking ahead: Conferences are on Friday. I am looking forward to touching base with everyone and telling you great things about your children! Please keep an eye on the weather and school closings for the next few weeks. If school is closed I will post activities on Google Classroom.
